Help!! Baby registry questions?
I recently made my first ever baby registry and it had to be one of the most confusing things I have ever done, some things just did not seem essential!! Here’s a few questions for experienced moms who have gone through this and know what you NEED and what is just luxury, and a few questions in between 
THERES A LOT!! haha
1. When it comes to the baby bottle sterilizer, if you get a certain brand of sterilizer will only bottles of THAT BRAND fit in the sterilizer or can you buy different brands?
2. What are the essentials of crib bedding? I know the obvious cute blanket set, but what are all these sheet protectors, etc?
3. Do you really need cloth diapers?
4. Is it easier to just request toiletry gift basket sets or select each certain kind of shampoo/baby wash you want?
5. Do you suggest any MUST HAVES?
1. If I ever want to sterilize my bottles I use the dishwasher. Or they have these bags by medela that you can use up to 20 times in the microwave to sterilize. I use them if need something sterilized quickly and don’t have time to put it in the dishwasher. But for the most part I hand wash the bottles in hot soapy water. So you should maybe get the sterilizing bags, a bottle brush, and a bottle drying rack.
2. I went to a infant cpr and safety class while I was pregnant and they said nothing on the bed except for a fitted sheet. That is so that the child is not at risk for SIDS. Not even a sleep positioner or anything. But you should get a fitted waterproof mattress pads to protect your mattress. On cold nights you should have a few sleepers to keep your child warm without having to use blankets.
3. I would get one pack of cloth diapers for when your child gets diaper rash. Children who use cloth diapers don’t get diaper rash as frequently as those who don’t.
4. I would just get a gift basket…you will find out later what works for your baby so no use in picking out certain things right now.
5. My must haves are:
- A bunch of baby gowns…it is so easy to change them with it in the middle of the night!
- The swaddleme worked wonders for swaddling my daughter!
- Receiving blankets, they serve multiple purposes!
- The boppy pillow is awesome for nursing! I didn’t nurse long, but when I did it was great! It’s even good for bottle feeding too!
- Breast pads if you are nursing
- Plenty of comfortable nursing bras if you plan to nurse…you go through them quick!
- Plenty of shirts compatible with nursing if you plan to nurse.
- Bottle rack, bottle brush, sterilizing bags.
- Of course the sleepers to keep her warm at night
- The baby swing is great for calming her down
- A TON of bibs, burp cloths, washcloths, socks, and mittens.
- Plenty of onsies!
- Breast pump if you plan on nursing and working.
- Gas drops
- Nail clippers and nail files, my baby’s nails grow VERY fast!
- Brush and comb, most people don’t really need them because their babies are bald, but mine had like an inch and a half of hair at birth!
- Extra car seat base if the baby will be going in multiple vehicles
- Mobile for when you aren’t in the same room.
- Johnson’s night time bath and lotion work GREAT for getting her to sleep. Everytime I use it she sleeps like an extra 2 hours than she normally does!
- Pack n’ play, I have one that has a changing pad and it can be used as a crib. I use it for downstairs so she can nap while I do what I need to do!
- At least 2 waterproof crib mattress pads, and a few fitted sheets!
That’s all I can really think of right now. If I think of more I’ll add to the list!
Crib Mattress Buying Tips?
We recently bought a crib for our baby to be and are now looking for a crib mattress. We are not planning to use the crib for a toddler. Our plans are to get a big kid bed once that stage comes so I am thinking we don’t need a mattress that you flip for heavier weight. That’s all I know about the mattresses though. Any tips when looking for one or brands you like, etc.? Thank you!
Well, I recently had twins and I bought my mattresses from Target. It was a vibrating mattress made by Sealy and it works great when I’m trying to get them to sleep. I would definitely recommend!
